During the Easter holidays, I took a trip to Gotha and spent time exploring the city photographically, thus expanding the "City Views" page. The result is new photos from the old town, the market square, the parks, and around Friedenstein Castle. Gotha impressed me with its clear layout and the seamless integration of architecture and green spaces. Many subjects can be captured calmly and directly, without any elaborate staging.
The new photography series presents Gotha in objective cityscapes and complements previous works from other cities. The focus is on the different architectural styles that shape the cityscape: Baroque and Neoclassical buildings around Friedenstein Castle, the Ducal Museum with its clear facade design, and the cohesive buildings of the old town with the town hall and market square.
What I found particularly interesting was the interplay between architecture and open space. Parks, sightlines, and pathways are closely integrated with the buildings, allowing for calm, uncluttered compositions. Many subjects can be captured without staging because proportions, distances, and lines are clearly legible.
This visit was certainly not the last. I plan to visit Gotha again to take more city views and to deliberately expand the series – for example, with different lighting conditions, perspectives, and less central areas of the city.
